BA (Hons), Guwahati University MA (Pol Sc.) Poona University, 1963 Studied painting at Imphal Art School (ested 1949) and M.S. University of Baroda (1975 - 77) under Prof. K.G. Subramanyan.

Membership and Motivation : Founding member and Hony Secretary, Arts Society manipur (1981 - 2003), the Premier art organisation of Manipur. As Secy. of ASM, was Chief Architect in shaping contemporary art movement in the region. Mobilised the younger generation into deep involvement in the creative visual art; Ex-Secretary, the Cultural Forum, Manipur (1970-71), organized contemporary art exhibitions in Manipur, study circles, seminars on art; Ex-Programme Advisor Committee, A.I.R., Imphal, associated with the Manipur State Kala Akademi as the General Council or Executive Board member or in some capacity or other concerning fine art right from its inception in 1972 was a member, Executive Board, MSKA as a nominee of the Lalit Kala Akademi, N. Delhi (2003 - 06);

Was a member of General Council Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi, (LKA 1973 - 78, 1979 - 88, also a member of the Publication committee, LKA, N. Delhi);

National Gallery of Modern Art, N. Delhi;Sente, Manipur University; & various other literary and Cultural organisations in Manipur.

Organisational works :

Active organizer of contemporary art activities; was the convenor of All India Exhibitions of Art, maniur for seven consecutive years (1983 - 89);  A Painter convenor of Seminars and conferences at the State and Regional levles; Writer on art and talk in the A.I.R., Imphal; interviews in the DDK, Imphal Consultant on Culture Initiated the Children’s Painting competition in 1973 and continued till 1992.

Publications :

Published two Monographs on the renowed artists of manipur series based on the works and the life of H. Shyamo Sharma (1917 - 79) and R.K. Yumjaosana Singh 91870 - 1954), published by the ASM in 1992 and 1994 respectively; contributed several articles on art in Manipuri and English languages for leading journals and News Papers including the prestigious LK Contemporary - No. 29 LKA, ND on contemporary art in Manipur; Wrote Childrens’ text books on Drawing for classes II (1982), IV (1987), V (1990) and VII (1982); Popularised book illustrations and cover designing in Manipur; Was a member of the Jury 2nd UP State Art Exhibition 1994; Purchase Comm. RLKK< Kolkata; 2nd Assam State level Art Competition, 2004; MSKA Art exhibitions; 3rd North East State Exhibition of Art, 2006.

Fellowship :

Senior Fellow in Painting, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Dept. of Culture, Govt. of India 2001 - 2002.

Awards :

First position among Junior Artists during the Hills and Plains Festival, 1954; Manipur State Kala Akademi (1974 & 1976); Gold medal, Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, 1983; National Akademi Award, 1988, LKA, New Delhi; Honoured by AIFACS, New Delhi, 1999. Pranab Barna Art Award, 2007 (Assam)
